The capital of Tunisia is made up of the Medina (its historical heart), the 'European' quarter assembled at the beginning of the 20th century. For more than 500 years the Medina has become the heart of Tunis, and UNESCO has classed as a World Heritage Site its exotic and fascinating maze of roads. Even the Zitouna Mosque reigns supreme and there are museums tucked down alleys.
