Tachai Island - Koh Tachai
Known as the Maldives of Thailand, Tachai has the most beautiful beach in all of Thailand. It is known to be one of the best diving and snorkeling sites in Thailand. The island is home to leopard sharks, nurse sharks, and eagle rays. The Hawksbill turtle and whale sharks are also regular visitors of these waters. And last but not least the most famous inhabitant on the island, the peculiar chicken crabs. With white sandy beaches and crystal-clear water, it’s a destination you don’t want to miss! The only way to visit the island is by going on snorkel tours, which are organized daily by local tour guides. Do keep in mind that the island sometimes closes to minimize ecological damage caused by mass tourism, so make sure you check before you plan your trip -- information is easily available online.
Similan Island - Koh Similan
Located in the Andaman Sea near Koh Phangan, Similan Island (Koh Similan) is one of the eleven islands that make up the Similan Archipelago. Its pristine waters make it the perfect travel destination for tourists who love to dive and explore sea & wildlife. Be prepared to spot sharks, barracudas, triggerfish, and various types of Nemo fish.
Due to the fragile and unique ecosystem, the government of Thailand keeps the island closed during Monsoon season, which starts around May and ends in October. There is no accommodation available on the island and camping is prohibited, so the only way to visit is by hiring daily tours.
Railay Beach
A popular destination for people all over the world, Railay beach in Krabi is one of our top picks. Relax in a jungle vibe at a great selection of budget to luxury resorts. Be prepared for long beach walks, limestone cliffs and to meet one of Thailand’s most welcoming people. Railay is an easy place to stay for longer periods as there are plenty of activities and places to eat scattered across the area. It is also one of the most famous rock climbing destinations in Thailand. Should you wish to visit other islands and beaches in the south, you can book tours directly from Railay beach or jump on a plane from Krabi airport.
Koh Kradan - Trang
If you are looking for the ultimate experience, we’re talking a private island pretty much all for yourself; Koh Kradan is the answer. White sandy beaches and blue waters, it’s the most dreamy beach of them all. Rent a bungalow right on the beach staring directly into the ocean, or go to a five-star hotel like the the Sevenseas resort. Seeing that this place is still a hidden gem, you can expect to eat excellent local cuisine. It is also worth mentioning that Koh Kradan has one of the most stunning sunsets in Thailand. Relaxing on the beach, massages and snorkeling trips…Don’t miss out on this serene unspoiled island!
Tip: If you have extra time, you should also visit the other islands around Trang, including Koh Libong and Koh Muk or Koh Mook.
Koh Lipe
Koh Lipe is located in the south of Thailand, all the way near the Thai and Malaysian border. Sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and easy-to-reach coral reefs make Koh Lipe one of the most stunning islands in the world. In addition, you can enjoy relaxing at a yoga retreat, snorkeling with perfect scenery, and choosing from an endless list of places to eat, shop, or have a traditional Thai massage. Lipe is not the easiest island to get to, but it's sure worth the effort. Planning your accommodation in Lipe is fun. There are a number of places to choose, including three spectacular beaches on the island. The nightlife is vibrant and you can find many cool bars on Lipe!
